After their week one victory over Oklahoma, BYU officially entered the conversation as a potential “BCS-buster.” They looked great in the new Texas Stadium, and with Max Hall at quarterback, who’s to say that they don’t belong in the BCS title game?
Halftime: Florida State 30, BYU 16
This hypothetical was always couched with a big “if,” of course—if they can past Florida State at home on September 19th. Well, thus far that’s not going so well, and unless Hall and the rest of the Cougars come out gunning in the second half (a legitimate possibility) we could be witnessing the last gasp of their BCS dream.
Already, Florida State has nearly 200 yards of rushing, and two touchdowns from Lonnie Pryor. Still, you can’t blame Hall; he’s gone 13 of 16 so far with 176 yards and a touchdown. The rest of the team (ahem, defense) are the ones struggling.
Or could it be that Florida State is better than any of us realize? The second half promises revelations, and not just because this game is being played in front 70,000 Mormons.
