Tigers-Twins: Verlander Faces Pavano With AL Central at Stake

The Twins took the first of a three-game series with the Tigers on Friday night, due in large part to rookie Brian Duensing's 6.1 shutout innings. Minnesota is three games behind Detroit with 15 games remaining for each team to play.

The next two games, needless to say, are huge, and so was Friday’s. Twinkie Town appropriately titled its reaction post, “BRIAN DUENSING IS YOUR GOD NOW.“

Tigers blog Bless You Boys is pretty sore over being on the receiving end of a shutout:

When asked a follow-up question about his batters' approach, [manager Jim Leyland] tersely replied, "You'll have to ask those guys." That was really the best response. What more can he say? This Tigers lineup has to shoulder their load, too. And after 147 games, how about accepting some accountability for this playoff effort?

The second game of the Twins' homestand starts at 4:00 ET. The Tigers are trotting out Justin Verlander (3.34 ERA) to start against Carl Pavano (4.91).
