With training camp around the corner, the Miami Herald is reporting today that second-year forward Michael Beasley has progressed well during his time in a Houston rehab facility, and could rejoin the Miami Heat organazation as early as this weekend. From the Herald:
Reports: Beasley Set to Return to Heat
Saturday would mark at least the 30th day Beasley, 20, has been in the in-patient program. He had been in Houston several weeks earlier as an out-patient in rehab, but was admitted on a more strict basis after an undisclosed rules violation. [...]
A Heat spokesman and Beasley’s personal manager, Bruce Shingler, declined to comment Friday night. The Heat has confirmed that, barring a setback, Beasley is expected to be with the team by the Sept. 28 start of training camp.
There’s no word on whether Beasley’s stint in Houston was “successful,” but with the season drawing near and the Heat counting on him after a promising rookie campaign, you hope that his mindset entering the season is better than it was more than a month ago, when he wondered aloud (via Twitter) whether life is even worth living.
Before the controversy of Beasley's personal life, Miami had passed on a trade that would have sent Beasley to Utah in exchange for All-Star power forward Carlos Boozer. Clearly, the Heat have high hopes for this young man. Here's to hoping he found the necessary help, and he's got his life back on the right track.
