WEC 42, which took place at The Joint at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, had a total disclosed payroll of $235,500.
I’m not exactly shocked to see that the show didn’t sell out. A Sunday night show in Vegas for the smaller WEC without Urijah Faber on the card probably isn’t going to sell out too often. The main event of Miguel Torres vs. Brian Bowles for the Bantamweight Title was certainly nice but Torres’ drawing power is strongest in a state like Texas (due to the Latino population) or his home region of Illinois.
The ratings were a pleasant surprise however. TV By The Numbers reported last month that the card drew 670,000 viewers on Versus which is very solid viewership for the network. WEC 43 is unlikely to come anywhere near this level of viewers with a reasonably week main event of Donald Cerrone vs. Ben Henderson. The next event also faces the potential issue of Versus still not being available on DirecTV depending on where that situation ends up.
