The card for the recently announced UFC 105 event is starting to take shape:
UFC 105 Card Coming Together
"The Ultimate Fighter" Season 9 winner Ross Pearson will get his first post-show test when he faces veteran Aaron Riley at UFC 105 on Nov. 16 in Manchester, England.
The news was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com Tuesday by sources close to the fight.
UFC 105 has yet to be announced by the promotion, but is expected to take place at the Manchester Evening News Arena. Early reports tabbed B.J. Penn vs. Diego Sanchez to headline the event, but UFC president Dana White said this weekend that a search is currently underway for a main event. A middleweight contest between Michael Bisping and Denis Kang co-headlines the show.
Riley is a very tough fight for a guy who just won TUF last season. He’s been fighting since 1997 and has a lot of experience fighting on big stages such as the UFC and PRIDE.
Pearson, on the other hand, has only been fighting regularly since ‘07. He certainly showed potential on the show, especially in dispatching Andre Winner in the finale, but there certainly should be doubts about his ability to handle the rugged veteran of 40 fights at this stage of his career.
Still though, we’re looking at a solid enough start to a card even without Penn/Sanchez as the headliner. Certainly for the local fans in England having both Pearson and Bisping on the card should make for a big night.
