Randy Couture Looking to Drop Down to Light Heavyweight

Randy Couture spoke to Sherdog.com and confirmed that his future seems to be at 205 pounds:

“I haven’t really looked at the cards and the shows that they have. What’s on the schedule, I don’t know, but I’m especially leaning towards dropping down. I’m pushing in weight. It would be easy for me to make 205 and there’s more interesting fights there right now.”

It’s a move which makes a lot of sense for the 46-year-old legend. Randy weighed in at only 220 pounds for his epic fight with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira this past Saturday so cutting down to 205 should be easy for a man of his amateur wrestling background.

As the UFC heavyweight division shifts toward a division dominated by men over 250 lbs, such as champion Brock Lesnar who has to cut weight to make the 265 pound limit, a drop to light heavyweight would put Couture in a position to once again be the bigger man in his fights.

Couture vs. Shogun Rua, Lyoto Machida, Quinton Jackson, Rashad Evans, even possibly a fourth fight against Chuck Liddell. All of those are big fights that would make the UFC a good deal of money. And this is the fight business, so nothing else really matters.
