According to two Belgian newspaper reports, Justine Henin will announce her return to tennis on Tuesday. She retired last year while still ranked No. 1 in the world. More from AP:
Justine Henin Will Reportedly Announce Return to Tennis on Tuesday
La Derniere Heure and Le Soir reported the comeback Monday
Her spokeswoman did not return phone calls and Henin’s Web site had no comment on the rumors. [...]
As recently as May, she complained that the sport had left her with so many physical ailments that a return was unthinkable.
Henin, a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, has begun training again, but has refused to comment on plans for a possible return over the past month.
She’s 27, which is typically past a tennis player’s prime, although certainly still young enough to compete. You’d have to imagine that Kim Clijsters winning the U.S. Open title earlier this month had something to do with the decision. Clijsters, 26, made her comeback after over two years away from tennis.
