Something You Probably Already Know: FedEx Cup Is Kind of Silly

The last leg of PGA’s “playoff” — The Tour Championship — begins this Thursday at East Lake in Atlanta. There are 30 golfers remaining, and each still has a chance to win the Cup (PGA.com took care of the unenviable task of breaking down all 30 scenarios).

↵Waggle Room brings up a good point: Shouldn’t only the top golfers remaining have a chance to win the playoffs?

↵↵So, everybody has a chance. The Washington Nationals’ win/loss record in baseball this year is 51-98. They are also in 30th place among all teams. I do not think they are in the playoffs this year.

↵I think having the chance at a huge check should be adequate compensation for twenty-five golfers. The chance to win $10m should be limited to five.

↵↵Good idea. Although if we’re really gonna go with the baseball analogy, the top eight golfers should be in contention. Just sayin’.
