Forget the Navelgazing: Let’s Just Enjoy the Golf, Shall We?

The Tour Championship closes out pro golf season this week, and among players, spectators, and at least three people I play with, which I’m going to go ahead and assume means “everybody,” there is some debate over whether the Tour Championship is capital-I Important. FanHouse’s Mick Elliott synthesized the debate today.

↵To which I would just like to say: Who cares? The Tour Championship is a big enough deal that all the best golfers play in it, and that’s enough for me. Maybe it’s a big deal, maybe not, but the aesthetic pleasure of Tiger Woods hitting a par 5 in two from 260 knows no context. That’s just awesome, whether it’s in the Tour Championship or the Masters or the John Deere Classic.
