The Boston Celtics signed on with a ticket agency called OptionIt, today, and the company sells tickets a bit differently than most.
Buying Tickets in the Future
↵The concept? That you would pay a small fee for the right of first-refusal for tickets down the line. For instance, tomorrow, you could buy options on Celtics tickets in April, but if Kevin Garnett is hurt, you won’t have to actually pay for the tickets. Or, if it turns out to be a big game, you can buy the tickets at face value, and avoid exorbitant prices at places like StubHub.

As OptionIt CEO Mark Mastalir explains, “This is a brand new way to buy tickets,” says OptionIt CEO Mark Mastalir. Click here to see the whole interview with CNBC’s Darren Rovell. As Mastalir continued:
↵↵This allows fans to purchase options that are linked to actual tickets, giving the fans the right, but not the obligation, to purchase a ticket at face value at a predetermined date in the future. … It’s a way to put a little money down for something that’s happening 3, 6, or 9 months down the road.
↵↵Does this make sense? Even I’m not sure, but check it out, because times are a changin’, and this might just be the way we all buy tickets in the year 2000 sometime soon.
