Longtime Montreal Canadian Patrice Brisebois Retires

Patrice Brisebois spent 16 seasons of this 18-year NHL career in Montreal, and the longtime fan favorite has decided to move on from his hockey playing days.

Brisebois had a tumoltous career at times as a Canadian and there was a period in the early 2000’s when fans would boo him on while on the ice, before Bob Gainey stepped in bascked him publicly. He spent two seasons in Colorado before making a triumphant return to Montreal in 2007. It was an emotional goodbye for Brisebois, who was unable to hold back the tears during his press conference.

An emotional Brisebois announced Thursday that his 18-year NHL career was coming to an end, and he marked the occasion by wearing the Stanley Cup ring he won with the Montreal Canadiens in 1993.

"I wore it today for the first time since 1993 because I told myself that I'm a winner," the Montreal native said through tears, addressing his coach from that year, Jacques Demers. "No one can ever take that away from me."

Brisebois will move on to become a driver the Canadian Tire NASCAR series.
