It’s lunch time, so dig in! No. 7 LSU visits Mississippi State, and No. 14 Cincinnati hosts Fresno State. Just kidding. Please do not eat the football games; they’re just there for decoration.
Early Saturday’s Final Scores
The day is young, and we have already seen two big upsets. No. 18 Florida State lost — at home — to South Florida, 17-7. The Seminoles lost four critical fumbles and didn’t manage to score until the fourth quarter.
No. 22 North Carolina visited Georgia Tech and was thrashed soundly about the neck and shoulders, losing 24-7. The Yellow Jackets’ defense held the Tar Heels to only 154 yards of offense.

Not only was this an upset, it was an especially one-sided upset. North Carolina managed only 154 yards of total offense against Georgia Tech, whose offense was good for 406 yards.
The Yellow Jackets continued to rely heavily on the running game, gaining 317 yards on the ground.

The Wolverines immediately recaptured the momentum of this game, as Tate Forcier recovered from a rough hit to the shoulder and flung a 26-yard touchdown pass. On the sidelines, he winced in pain after being slapped on the shoulder.
On the ensuing possession, MIchigan intercepted Ben Chappell. In a somewhat questionable decision, the interception was upheld by official review.

Huge Momentum Shift: Indiana 33, Michigan 29
Wolverines quarterback Tate Forcier rushed in for a touchdown, then ran the ball in for a two-point conversion, putting Michigan up 29-26. Moments later, though, Indiana’s Darius Williams busted loose for an 85-yard run that exempted the Hoosiers from having to figure out their red zone strategy. The Michigan crowd is acting as though their pet gerbil has died.

Seminoles Finally On the Board: South Florida 14, No. 18 Florida State 7
They waited until the fourth quarter, but Florida State managed to score on a 3-yard Ty Jones touchdown rush. ’Noles quarterback Christian Ponder has thrown for 246 yards, but the team has suffered three lost fumbles today.

Hoosiers Stall in Red Zone...Again. Indiana 26, Michigan 21
Indiana has now amassed 380 yards — 264 from Ben Chappell’s passing — but Michigan has stopped them in the red zone yet again. Nick Freeland kicked a 32-yard field goal — oddly enough, the longest of his four field goals today. It’s been good enough for the Hoosiers so far, as they lead the Wolverines, 26-21.

Hoosiers kicker Nick Freeland has made three chip shots from 20, 23, and 30 yards. Field goals are nice, but this team has racked up 280 yards of total offense so far, and they surely regret not being able to convert those red zone opportunities into touchdowns.
Michigan is also pouring on plenty of offense, accruing 247 total yards. Freshman Denard Robinson has occasionally relieved Tate Forcier at quarterback.

Georgia Tech looks moderately better on offense, adjusting for the aggressive pass rush of the Tarheels with a series of tosses and counters, but the shocking news at the half from a 10-0 Tech lead at the half:
is 0-7 on third down and has just 52 yards of offense at the half, including a meager 36 yards passing. When the run-first, run-often, and run-forever offense of Paul Johnson has more yards passing (68) than your offense has in total yardage, you’re suffering some kind of protracted offensive stroke as a unit.

Georgia Tech Up on No. 22 UNC, 7-0
Through one quarter, the Yellow Jackets have almost completely neglected their passing game — quarterback Josh Nesbitt has attempted only one pass, while running back Jonathan Dwyer has rushed for 81 yards.
The Tar Heels have managed only 6 yards of total offense so far.

Both of Michigan’s touchdowns have been courtesy of big plays: quarterback Tate Forcier found Carlos Brown for a 61-yard touchdown pass, and on the next possession he pitched to Brown behind the line of scrimmage for a 41-yard score.
On the Indiana side: quarterback Ben Chappell is already 8 for 11 with 121 passing yards.
