Most fans probably don’t realize it due to the language barrier, but the Mariners’ Ichiro Suzuki is one of the most sarcastic wiseguys in baseball. Some of his translated interviews absolutely brim with snideness and sarcasm, and if the umpires could understand him, he’d probably have racked up dozens of ejections by now. Well, the other shoe finally dropped today, as Ichiro was tossed for making exasperated gestures:
A Player’s First Ejection is Always Special
↵↵He used his bat to draw a line on the outer edge of the plate, indicating that David Purcey’s strike three pitch was outside. Home plate umpire Brian Runge immediately ejected Suzuki, who argued briefly before being escorted off the field by manager Don Wakamatsu.
↵↵It was the first ejection of Ichiro’s entire career in the major leagues. To put that in perspective, Braves manager Bobby Cox was ejected five times this morning while he was brushing his teeth.
