With College Football in Full Swing, What Games Mean the Most?

We have finally come to the end of the extended dessert service that is much of September in college football. The cupcakes have been cleared away, and conference schedules are commencing. USC has gotten its inexplicable upset under their belt; Ole Miss’ bandwagon lost all its traction on Thursday. The meaningful games have begun.↵↵So, briefly, a review of the most important matchups today.↵
↵↵Fresno State at Cincinnati: The Bearcats have just Miami of Ohio and a weak Big East ahead of them. If they can beat the explosive Bulldogs, the path to an unbeaten regular season -- and possibly Pasadena -- is paved with teams Cincy should beat.↵
↵↵Miami at Virginia Tech: For the Hurricanes, it’s a chance to continue a fantastic early-season run and perhaps leap into the top five with an impressive win; for the Hokies, it’s a opportunity to re-establish themselves as the bullies of the ACC and take the inside track in the Coastal Division race.↵
↵
↵↵Arkansas at Alabama: the Crimson Tide’s offense seems to be just fine with Greg McElroy under center and a stable of great backs behind him. But the secondary will be tested by the second-ranked passing offense in the country and the most potent team on ‘Bama’s schedule.↵
↵↵California at Oregon: How does Jeff Tedford’s team respond to being the Pac-10 favorites? Hopefully, for Golden Bears fans, by riding Jahvid Best and a stout defense. Meanwhile, Oregon can turn an agonizingly slow start into a promising early season with a win.↵
