With Tiger Woods lurking near the top of the leaderboard at the start of play today, any faltering from Kenny Perry figured to hand Tiger yet another Major Championship. And while Kenny Perry did his part (shooting a 74 in the final round), Phil Mickelson re-wrote the script.
Round 4: Tiger wins Fed Ex Cup, Finishes 2nd to Mickelson
Mickelson shot a blistering 65 in today’s final round, to come from 4 strokes back to win the PGA Championship by 3. Woods’ consolation prize? Essentially, a $10 million ESPY award, as he takes home the PGA Fed Ex Cup, winning the season trophy yet again.
For Woods, though, that type of trophy means nothing—he plays for major championships, and while other trophies are certainly nice, you have to think he’s smarting in the clubhouse today after watching Phil snatch this victory from him in such dramatic fashion.
