Wouldn’t it be remarkable if that ugly game between Denver and Cincinnati a few weeks ago turned out to be a preview of the Super Bowl? Even now, it seems like pretty outlandish suggestion, but both of these looked pretty impressive this afternoon, as Denver coldly dispatched the hapless Oakland Raiders (23-3), while Cincinnati rallied late to topple their divisional rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
What We Learned: 4 O’clock Games are in the Books
Neither team was pegged for greatness at the beginning of this season, but both currently look primed to challenge for at least a playoff spot this year. If there’s one axiom that’s proven true for pro football in the new millenium, it’s that we know absolutely nothing, and each year, a handful of teams make all the experts look ignorant. This year, Cincy and Denver are looking more and more like those teams each week.
Elsewhere this afternoon, the New Orleans Saints rolled over Buffalo (27-7) behind two touchdowns from Pierre Thomas. And San Diego topped last year’s miracle winners, the Miami Dolphins, 23-13.
Arizona and Indianapolis will finish off the day in prime time tonight, so be sure to check back later for news on that one.
