Weekend Wake Up: Tiger’s Tail Tugged, A NASCAR Scuffle, Goodbye to Lisa Leslie

Quick hits on fringe sports? Why not? It’s better than chasing Tebow’s ambulance.↵↵Neither Predator Nor Prey. Kenny Perry fired a 64 to take a two-shot edge over Tiger Woods on Saturday at the Tour Championship, but it’s Woods who controls his fate. For Perry to win the FedEx Cup and its $10 million prize, he must win and hope Tiger falls into a tie for third or worse. Given that Tiger’s Saturday 69 wasn’t further into the red because of his putter, a constant problem this season, Perry might have a shot. Then again, it’s Sunday, it’s Tiger, and it’s not like Perry hasn’t cracked down the stretch in memorable fashion this year.↵
↵↵Dust-Up on Pit Row. On one hand, Denny Hamlin shoving Brad Keselowski and the short skirmish that followed it isn’t a great look for NASCAR as a whole. On the other, while it took a fight between two drivers on the Nationwide series to get me to pay attention to NASCAR, I’ve now figured out that Mark Martin is atop the Sprint Cup standings. Having Danica Patrick around might be good for these guys.↵

↵Farewell to LL. The Phoenix Mercury limited the Los Angeles Sparks to seven points in the first quarter of Game 3 in the Western Conference Finals and never gave up that lead, winning 85-74 and earning a return to the WNBA Finals for the franchise that won it all. But the story is that it was Lisa Leslie's last game. The Sparks center retires as probably the best player in her sport's history, with two WNBA titles, four gold medals, and twelve seasons of ambassadorship for her sport behind her. It seems fitting that it took the Mercury's Diana Taurasi, another all-time great, to beat her, and that Candace Parker, who could be even greater, will learn from her loss.↵
