Singletary Says Gore Injury ‘Not Believed To Be Serious’

Niners head coach Mike Singletary spoke to the press about RB Frank Gore’s injured ankle, and seemed to throw some water on the reports that Gore would miss a few games. According to Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Singletary said that Gore’s ankle “strain” is distinct from the ankle “sprain” that landed him on the injury report prior to Week 3. Singletary went on to say that Gore’s injury is “not believed to be serious.”

Maiocco points out that Singletary previously described MLB Patrick Willis’ Achilles heel problem as an “ankle strain”, so this does not necessarily mean that Jason La Confora’s earlier report that Gore had suffered a high ankle sprain is incorrect. Perhaps Singletary is taking a page out of the Eric Mangini playbook, and trying to create doubt about whether Gore will play, so their opponents will have to prepare for him as well. We’ll keep you updated on any developments.
