Looking For A Few More Good Options?
ADD
Kenny Britt - The Titans don’t throw much and they don’t throw well, but rookie Kenny Britt seems to find catches. His 166 receiving yards leads the Titans and he’s had at least 2 catches in every game this season. He’s not likely to break out for a huge 100 yard game, but he is consistent and there’s some value in that.
Bruce Gradkowski - Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell laid another egg this week going 12 of 21 for 61 yards and 2 interceptions in a brutal loss to the hated Broncos. I know the Raiders aren’t known for shrewd personnel moves but, come on, how long can this go on? SIXTY ONE YARDS! At some point they’ll have to admit Russell isn’t getting the job done and bench him. Since Oakland cut veteran QB Jeff Garcia, the next guy in line is Bruce Gradkowski. Yeah, he’s not an Pro Bowler, but he has to be an improvement and might even be fantasy-usable. Stranger things (Tom Brady, Scott Mitchell, Kurt Warner, etc) have happened.
Ricky Williams - If you have Ronnie Brown you should already have Williams as a handcuff, but it’s possible he might be on the waiver wire in some leagues (including 37% of Sportsline leagues). If so, think about grabbing him. He’s been under the radar but has already racked up 166 rushing yards (more than Willie Parker or Matt Forte) and has another 51 receiving yards. The Dolphins already seem to find a way to get him the ball every game, a trend that should grow with Chad Pennington out.
DROP
Laurence Maroney - If you did tequila shooters during your draft and ended up with Laurence Maroney, it’s (long past) time to let him go. The Patriots are more than happy to use a running-back-by-committee approach, and Maroney isn’t even close to being the best guy in that committee. His 4 rush, 17 yard performance against the Falcons was just the final nail in the coffin.
Larry Johnson - I know it’s hard to do, but it’s time to dump off Larry Johnson. Johnson finished with a terrible line of 19 rushes for 38 yards on Sunday, but that included a 14 yard gain. Take away that big break and Johnson finished with 18 rushes for 24 yards -- an average of 1.33 yards per rush. Yeesh! As though that weren’t enough, Jamaal Charles sported a nice 6.0 yards per rush carry on the six touches he had. Johnson is carrying a gigantic contract, has had multiple legal issues and is not performing. How long before the Chiefs blow up the roster and start over? Their next two opponents are the Giants and the Cowboys, so it probably won’t be long. Dump him before the Chiefs do.
Brady Quinn - The Not-So Mighty Quinn was unceremoniously benched at halftime after throwing for only 34 yards with an interception. The Browns replaced him with Derek Anderson, who went on to throw THREE interceptions in the second half. Good job Browns! Quinn might start again this season -- he might start the next game -- but you never know when he’ll stink, be benched, or both. There’s no reason to have Quinn on your roster at this point.
