Rick Stroud at the St. Pete Times has a great breakdown of why Jagodzinski was, and was not, fired. Reasons why:
Firing Direct Result of Jags’ Inability to Install, Run NFL Offense
Sometime during training camp, it became increasingly apparent to Bucs officials and players, that Jagodzinski was not equipped to install and direct an NFL offense. His expertise centered mostly around the zone blocking scheme, which he helped operate for the Atlanta Falcons. But Jagodzinski lacked sophistication regarding protections and different aspects of an NFL passing game.
And the reasons why not (which help dispel our previous speculations):
Jagodzinski did not disagree with Raheem Morris’ decision to name Byron Leftwich the starting quarterback. In fact, he was in Leftwich’s corner when Morris polled the staff a week before the decision was announced.Jagodzinski also didn’t have any rift with Olson or any other member of the Bucs staff or players. Generally speaking, he got along with everybody.
So, there it is: He just wasn’t ready and able to be an NFL coordinator. Better for the Bucs to realize that now than after the season starts.
