Alabama’s Julio Jones, Mark Ingram Cleared To Play Saturday

We found out a few weeks back that Alabama starters Julio Jones and Mark Ingram took a fishing trip together during the off-season. No big deal. Until you also mention that businessman Curtis Anderson was also with them. And he paid for the trip. Oops.

Alabama reported the infraction to the NCAA and braced itself for the chance that it’s star WR and starting RB would be lost for the season-opener against Virginia Tech. The verdict came down this evening and it was...no big deal.

Jones and Ingram were found guilty of secondary violations for taking a fishing trip on an older friend’s dime, even though the NCAA found 56-year-old Curtis Anderson “was not a booster, fan or alumnus.” Jones and Ingram will pay for the trip (why?) and ‘Bama, for once, will incur no sanctions.

The key to the whole thing was that Anderson was not an Alabama booster, though it remains shady as-is as to why he was fishing with them. Regardless, no harm, a little foul and both will be in uniform come Saturday.
