ESPN.com’s Mark Stein is reporting that San Antonio Spurs veteran Bruce Bowen, who was dealt to Milwaulkee earlier this offseason, will retire at the age of 38.
Bruce Bowen to Retire; NBA to Rename Flagrant Fouls in Memoriam
Bowen told ESPN.com that he will formally announce his retirement at a Thursday afternoon news conference and said he would elaborate more on his decision then. [...]
It is believed that Bowen, who became an unrestricted free agent Aug. 1 when the Milwaukee Bucks bought out the final year of his contract, has decided to step away from the game because of his growing desire to pursue off-court business and community interests as well as a career in broadcasting.
Bowen, a fly in the ointment for NBA superstars for the better part of a decade, made the All-NBA first team for defense, won three titles, and, you might say, made an “art of annoyance” over the course of his years in San Antonio. He will be missed, and jokes aside, he’s a player that surpassed expectations at every turn, and carved out a distinguished career for himself where plenty of greater talents might have failed.
Ime Udoka, Spurs nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
