The Bengals’ wideout Chris Henry has flashed great talent, but unfortunately he’s also flashed his gun. The West Virginia product has shown a nose for the endzone with 19 touchdowns in 107 career receptions, but the problem is staying on the field and out of off-the-field trouble.
Chris Henry: A Changed Man?
Every year there are training camp phenoms. All the talk will be how they’ve rededicated themselves to the game; how they’ve shed 20 pounds and are now cut like a Michelangelo sculpture; or as is in Henry’s case, how they’ve straightened up their act.
In a recent USA Today article Carson Palmer says:
I’m very close with him. We spend a lot of time together. I’ve seen it firsthand. He’s a different person.
Do we take him at his word? Or is this more preseason hype?
Coach Lewis wants to see it first hand:
People here have worked very closely with Chris on being a professional and being what a young man should be. He has a ways to go in different areas. Now he's got to match on the field what he's done off the field.
He's got incredible athleticism, but there are a lot of guys hanging on street corners with athleticism in their pockets.
I, for one, am a fantasy football player. I look at risk and reward. Henry has looked good in preseason, has no impending charges or suspensions on the horizon and maybe I'm a sucker, but I'm all for a good comeback story.
He has been going around the ninth round (or the 39th receiver off the board) and I see him being a decent value there. I wouldn't reach further than that, but he has the upside of a top 30 receiver.
Take a chance on him.
