ESPN to America: Go Favre Yourself

Favre Packers Vikings

Favre fatigue has been rampant in America for several years running, but ESPN is gambling that they can belabor the NFL’s most overexposed quarterback just a little bit more without the populace storming Bristol.
↵
↵Prior to Monday night’s Packers-Vikings tilt, which we probably don’t need to remind you is Brett’s first against the team that he spent the bulk of his career with, ESPN is aiming to break a world record for the amount of times that they can mention Favre’s name during a broadcast. Yes, they’re even bringing in a representative from the Guinness Book of World Records to the 5 p.m. SportsNation show on ESPN2. SportsNation is already a gimmicky show that’s hardly concerned about keeping a respectable face, so if ESPN wants to brazenly try to capaitalize on heightened attention for a cheap ratings ploy, it’s not the worst place to do it. However, given the relentless blanket coverage of Favre from all members of the ESPN broadcast family, this has the potential to further tarnish the brand as being far too worshipful to a single player.
↵
↵And judging from the number of times Favre’s name comes up during an average Monday Night Football broadcast in which he isn’t even appearing, it’s safe to guess that should ESPN set a new record, the Worldwide Leader will only be breaking an existing one they already own.↵
