Uh-oh, Hornets fans. According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, new addition Emeka Okafor was held out of practice for the second straight day of training camp due to knee soreness. From the Times-Picayune:
Hornets C Okafor Held Out of Practice
“We’re just trying to limit him right now, but we will find out a little more tomorrow,” Scott said. “We have some concerns of something that he did this summer so we just want to make sure he’s OK before we try to put him through a full day of practice.”
Scott did not rule out the possibility that Okafor could be held out for the remainder of training camp, which concludes on Sunday at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
This is certainly an inauspicious beginning in New Orleans for the injury-prone Okafor. In college, Okafor battled back problems, and he missed nearly his entire second year in the NBA with ankle injuries. Considering how the Hornets are counting on him to be a legitimate third scoring option (not to mention the $70 million-plus contract they took on in acquiring him), losing Okafor for any extended period of time would obviously be a substantial blow. We’ll keep you updated for any developments in his status.
