Don’t Blink, Four Sleepers Who are Waking Up

Here are my top four sleepers headed into week 1. You know just watching these athletes in the preseason, my gut (the only true gauge) and reading the team reports tells me they're worth a roster spot. If you're in a deep league don't sleep on these guys, the upside is too high!

Jermichael Finley TE, Green Bay

Finley has been a dominating force totaling nine receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns in just three preseason games while becoming a favorite target of Aaron Rodgers. He should have no trouble passing Donald Lee and becoming the biggest TE sleeper this year. Finley is a huge red zone target with amazing body control. Even in a shallow 10 team league Finley is a must add! Coach Mike McCarthy agrees:

“He’s definitely a weapon for us. We felt that last year, just the way we were able to utilize Jermichael the last couple of games of the season, and now he’s able to do the full gamut. He’s another young player that looks like he’s ready to take off.”

Davone Bess WR, Miami

Bess looks to be the starting option opposite Ted Ginn. Bess would be an exceptional backup in PPR leagues and will serve as a viable bye week fill-in with the possibility of becoming a starter in deeper leagues. Since week 12 last year Bess was setting pace for a 96 catch season.

Malcolm Kelly WR, Washington

Kelly was drafted in 2008 in the 2nd round (20th pick). At 6-4 and 219 pounds he has the height to become a consistent red zone target and a point per possession machine. Watching this kid in the preseason it is obvious the skins are dialing him up in the red zone. I also see Kelly starting the season as Washington’s WR2 opposite Santana Moss.

Chris Brown RB, Houston

Kubiak has announced the team plans to use Chris Brown as a short-yardage runner, a red-zone runner and Slaton’s backup. Brown signed with the Texans in the winter of 2007, but missed the entire 2008 regular season with a back injury. In TD heavy leagues Brown needs to be on your roster ASAP.
