With news breaking earlier that Colt Brennan was headed to IR, we all found out that Chase Daniel had won that battle, right? He would be the team’s 3rd-string quarterback. Not so fast...the Washington Redskins look upon NFL conventions as a blogger looks at a newspaper--why do it this way?
Redskins Decide That 2 Quarterbacks is Enough for Now
Perhaps that’s why they decided to sell extra tickets to ticket brokers, instead of, you know, their fans. And it certainly explains the team’s curious decision to keep just two quarterbacks, as theycut Chase Daniel on Saturday.
Chris Mottram, my boss, responds:
This raises the question: What the [expletive]? I mean, really, I don’t care who the Skins third string QB is. (As long as it’s not Colt Brennan.) But why would you wait until after the preseason to cut both bros who were competing for the role? Were they really on the fence with Chase, and just hoping he’d WOW their socks off with a 300-yard performance against the Jags practice squad? I realize Vinny Cerrato thinks conventional wisdom is for [expletive], but if you weren’t planning on keeping Colt or Chase, it would probably make sense to bring in another QB, like, anytime before a week prior to your first regular season game. So, the Skins are now left with two QBs. Which means they’ll most certainly be in the market for a free agent to fill the backup, backup role. Or maybe they’ll just keep five RBs on the roster. You just never know with the Redskins WHICH IS WHY THIS TEAM IS SO FUN!
