Turk Schonert might have been undone by his own players. Starting QB Trent Edwards and WR Lee Evans were critical of Schonert’s offense through the preseason, going as far as passing on their problems to head coach Dick Jauron. When an offensive coordinator loses the confidence of the teams starting QB, the inevitable is just around corner - as long as the franchise believes the QB is the future at the position, as the Bills do with Edwards.
Trent Edwards and Lee Evans Didn’t Like Schonert’s Offense
Said Edwards about the problems:
“I don’t think it was really about me. I think it was about the offense as a whole,” Edwards said. “We had voiced some things with what direction it was going and where we needed to go. And I think that coach Jauron made the decision on what he felt the offense needed best.“Starting WR Lee Evans also voiced his issues, leaving us with only one question. What was T.O.‘s take on the problems, and what does he think about new coordinator Alex Van Pelt?
“This is going to be a little bit of a transition for us,” said Owens, who has resumed practicing. “We have to take accountability, we have to go out there and jell with one another and go out there and play.“Ever the diplomat.
