So new Bucs coach Raheem Morris named Cadillac Williams the starting running back. This makes for a feel-good story as noted here (via SB Nation’s Buc ‘Em blog). But, what does that mean for the fantasy world? Can you trust that Cadillac will get enough carries to warrant starting him on Sundays? Is he a true RB1?
Questions Arise About Cadillac’s Number of Carries
We’ll probably have to wait until after week 1 to get real answers to those questions. ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas has his doubts, and thinks you should, too.
But I wouldn’t go starting Williams on your fantasy football teams. I don’t think the Bucs are going to give him 25 or 30 carries right off the bat. Even if Williams truly is the No. 1 running back, the carries are going to be split three ways, with Derrick Ward and Earnest Graham also involved.Morris has talked about a 2-2-1 system where one running back would play two series, followed by another running back for two more series and a third running back for one series before switching back to the starter.
Fantasy owner beware, relying on the Cadillac to drive your fantasy team could put you in a ditch. Use caution in starting Williams this week, if you have other options, consider taking them.
