In The Meantime, These Are Still The 2009 Cubs

Meaning they are still almost comically injured. Today’s diagnosis regards Reed Johnson, who is officially out for the season with a still-unhealing fractured left foot:

Reed Johnson’s fractured left foot has not healed completely and it’s doubtful he will return this season.

Johnson has been on the disabled list since July 30 after fouling a ball off the top of his left foot July 29 against Houston.

“Talked to Reed last night, and he still can’t run,” manager Lou Piniella said. “This season is slip-sliding away for us. There’s no place to send him for rehab, and he still can’t put weight on it and run.”

With only 25 games remaining, the chances of Johnson returning this year are slim. Because Johnson is a free agent, he may have played his last game as a Cub.
