Patrick Roy’s Son, Jonathon, Will Stand Trial for On-Ice Assault

From the Montreal Gazette:

The son of former Montreal Canadiens goaltender Patrick Roy will have to stand trial for assault following an on-ice fight last year.

Jonathan Roy, then a goalie for the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, was charged after pounding an opposing goalie during a nasty hockey brawl in March 2008.

His defence lawyer filed a motion for a stay of proceedings arguing his client was the victim of procedural abuse, but a Quebec court judge dismissed the request Tuesday and said Roy will have to face trial.
