We’ve been searching through mock draft after mock draft to find someone who doesn’t think the Carolina Panthers will select Stanford QB Andrew Luck with the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL draft. But we’ve yet to find that mock draft. Everywhere we’re looking it’s unanimous -- Luck is going to the Panthers (assuming he does declare for the draft, which reportedly isn’t a given).
2011 NFL Mock Draft: Andrew Luck To Panthers Is Unanimous
Here’s a roundup on all the mock drafts that have luck going to the Panthers:
SB Nation (Panthers): Jimmy Clausen has done absolutely nothing in his rookie season that would prevent a new set of Panthers decision-makers from taking Luck, the consensus top prospect in the nation.
Mocking The Draft (Panthers): Well, all you Panthers fans made me switch. Personally, I think this would be a bad move but who knows I’m probably an ND homer. If the Panthers are smart, they’ll trade down and essentially give Luck to someone else and get more picks to build a team. This picture should get clearer once we get closer to draft day, kinda like last year with Bradford, Suh, and Clausen.
CBS Sports Rob Rang (Panthers): The only question is whether Luck elects to forego his final two years of eligibility and enter the draft. The redshirt sophomore has the mental and physical skills to earn comparisons to Peyton Manning, making the fact that the Panthers invested a second-round pick in Jimmy Clausen last year meaningless.
Sports Agent Blog (Panthers): I still do not think that the jury is out on Jimmy Clausen...yet. It’s easy to see that Clausen hasn’t been given a fair enough chance to make plays in Carolina. Receivers have been dropping balls and the defense ranks 32nd against the pass. However, with Andrew Luck possibly entering the NFL Draft, he is too good to pass up. Luck has the skills as well as the intangibles and intelligence to be a great NFL quarterback. Last QB to have all of those? Peyton Manning.
CBS Sports Chad Reuter (Panthers): There’s a lot of talk about Luck staying in school, but until Jim Harbaugh signs an extension at Stanford and Luck holds a press conference saying he’s returning ... I’m keeping the potential No. 1 prospect in this spot.
FanHouse (Panthers): Luck still has to officially throw his name into the 2011 draft, but if he does, it’d be stunning to see Carolina pass on him here. Jimmy Clausen doesn’t really look like the answer.
Draft Tek (Panthers): If you, like many in the country, watched the Orange Bowl, you know why Andrew Luck is here at number one. The Cardinal QB is NFL ready, makes great decisions, has prototypical size and athleticism, and can make every throw. He’s even in a pro-style offense and is used to taking snaps from under center. Clausen finished 2010 with the worst QB rating in the NFL. The Panthers can’t pass up a guy like Luck.
