It’s almost a blessing that Dominique Wilkins did not exist on today’s landscape. We would have been so inundated with ‘Nique highlights… After a while, we’d get sick of it. These days, stars have to evolve in order to keep our attention; we get tired of someone doing the same trick over and over again.
Happy Birthday Dominique Wilkins!

And that’s the coolest detail about Dominique Wilkins. He never changed. Vince Carter could dunk on the whole league if he wanted to, but after his second year in the NBA, he developed a jump shot and stopped attacking. ’Nique never did. He never stopped being a badass.

With that, the Top 10 dunks of his career:
No. 5 is the most physically impressive (1:01), no. 4 has some entertaining racial subtext if you want to read it that way (1:10), no. 3 made me physically cringe in honor of Boston’s Robert Parrish (1:25), and no. 1? Well… Bob Lanier won’t be sending a birthday card this year...

...On second thought, we’d never get sick of Dominique Wilkins. HAPPY 50TH ’NIQUE!
