Good news for fight fans, bad news for every fighter in the UFC’s welterweight division not named Georges St. Pierre; GSP’s head trainer Firas Zahabi doesn’t believe the much talked about move by GSP to leave the UFC and pursue his dreams of wrestling for the Canadian National Team at the 2012 Olympics will happen. Fighthype.com has the scoop:
Firas Zahabi: ‘I Don’t See Georges Quitting The UFC To Pursue Wrestling’
↵↵“I don’t see GSP relinquishing his title and trying out for the Olympics. I think it was just blown out of proportion. He was just saying it’s one of his goals. Georges is very goal oriented; he has many goals. The guy wants to do everything and now he’s doing MMA. Maybe in the future, depends on how everything goes, that may be a possibility too, but that thing was really blown out of proportion. I don’t see him quitting the UFC and pursuing a wrestling career at all!”
↵↵Maybe Zahabi is right. A lot has been made of GSP’s recent comments about his desire to wrestle in the Olympics. He merely stated that the idea to give up MMA for the Olympics was in the back of his mind when the questioned was proposed to him a couple weeks ago, (keyword there being ‘back’).
↵The guy has been on an absolute tear recently and there is no reason to think that his string of dominance will end anytime soon.
↵Well, I mean, unless of course he retires from the sport.
