Tyler Bozak Notches Memorable First Career Goal

Toronto had lost six of seven games, been outscored 26-12 and witnessed a side of Phil Kessel they hoped wouldn’t arrive; his dry side (referring to one goal in 14 matches). The Maple Leafs were desperate for a spark and their wish was granted midway through the second period yesterday. Tyler Bozak, in his third career NHL game, made Ole-Kristian Tollefsen resemble a pylon and beat Philadelphia goaltender Michael Leighton up high to open the scoring for the contest and his career.

↵It turned out to be the game-winner in a 4-0 route as Vesa Toskala earned his first shutout in 70 games. Bozak, who also added an assist, now has four points in the three games where he’s received an opportunity. Last April, the 23-year-old was signed as an undrafted college free agent. With the hopes of turning into a legitimate forward for Toronto, Bozak has not disappointed in the early stages making a believer out of head coach Ron Wilson.

↵Up next for the Maple Leafs is a visit to Washington today against the high-powered Capitals. Expect Bozak to join Phil Kessel and Nikolai Kulemin on the top line again.
