The Wall Street Journal researched a handful of NFL games, and has come to the conclusion that a game of professional football, from start to finish, only features about eleven minutes of action.
This Is Not News: Football Is Slower Than Baseball
↵While the sample size of this study is a little more broad, this territory was explored a few months ago. As we reported back in October, SportsScape performed a similar study that compared football to baseball. The findings: an arbitrarily-chosen baseball game lasted 2:26 and featured about 21 minutes of actual action. The arbitrarily-chosen NFL game, on the other hand, clocked in at over three hours but featured only about 15 minutes of action.
↵This serves as a valuable weapon in the counter-argument that baseball is not, in fact, boring. Arguments like these, commonly held in bars or near water coolers, usually last about 6 hours and feature approximately 45 seconds of intelligent discourse.
