We posted the video yesterday of former MLBer José Offerman taking a swing at an umpire in the Dominican Winter League where he is managing this season. I’m sorry…did I say is, because I meant was.
José Offerman Suspended for Life
Per ESPNDeportes.com, via RotoWorld.com, Offerman has been suspended by the Dominican Winter League for life. The ESPNDeportes report, translated (and edited) below:
⇥The LIDOM suspended Offerman, interim manager of the Licey Tigers, for life for having beaten American umpire Daniel Rayburn in the face in the third inning of Saturday’s game against the Gigantes del Cibao in the Quisqueya Stadium in Santo Domingo.⇥⇥For the incident, Rayburn and the other three American umpires who worked in the current quisqueyana season put in their irrevocable resignation and left the country, forcing the judges to use native LIDOM in the final series between the Giants and Lions, which begins Monday.⇥
⇥⇥To leave the league, Rayburn, Jayson Bradley, Justin Vogel and Barry Larson argued that they feared for their safety.⇥
