Broncos’ Brandon Marshall, Adam Scheffler Will Be Benched Sunday Vs. Chiefs

The Denver Broncos' Week 17 game against the Kansas City Chiefs is a must-win if they want to reach the playoffs, and it looks as though they will do so without their star wide receiver, Brandon Marshall, and their tight end, Tony Scheffler.

[Broncos coach Josh] McDaniels said Friday he’s benching Marshall, his Pro Bowl receiver, for the Broncos’ pivotal season finale Sunday against the Chiefs.
“Our word for the week has been accountability. And we’re looking to put the 45 guys on the field on Sunday that want to play together, want to help us try to win and qualify for the playoffs,” McDaniels said. ”... And anybody that showed any indifference to that, we’ll play without them.

Our Broncos blog, Mile High Report, weighs in on Marshall’s benching:

This is not a good start to what is likely to be an interesting off-season for the Broncos. They have a big decision to make with Marshall, should 2010 be an uncapped season. Is this ‘injury’ the first salvo fired by Marshall, looking once again to force his way out of Denver?

For plenty more on what the future holds for Marshall and the Broncos, read on at Mile High Report.
