Kenny Florian Vs. Takanori Gomi Expected To Headline UFC Fight Night 21

A great match up in the UFC’s lightweight division between Kenny “KenFlo” Florian and “The Fireball Kid” Takanori Gomi is being targeted for UFC Fight Night 21. The fight is expected to serve as the main event for the card set to take place on March 31st from North Carolina. ESPN’s MMA Live, of which Kenny Florian serves as a co-host, tweeted the news earlier today.

The fight has been rumored for weeks, but the event at which it would be scheduled for has been undecided until now. KenFlo is on record as saying the match with Gomi should be on a Pay-per-view card. But it appears that the Zuffa brass thinks it would make for a good main event for the Fight Night card which is set to serve as a lead-in for the premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 11 with coaches Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz.

Florian is one fight removed from his title shot against BJ Penn, where he suffered a submission loss to the champ in the fourth round. He did however rebound nicely with a dominating performance against Clay Guida at UFC 107.

Gomi, who signed with the UFC earlier this month, was once considered one of the best lightweights in the world. A former Shooto and Pride FC world champion, “The Fireball Kid” has recently seen his stock drop a bit after suffering losses in two of his last four fights.

Regardless of Gomi’s recent performances, this is an exciting match up for the UFC’s lightweight division and could prove to be meaningful in the division’s title picture.

Here is what the card for UFC Fight Night 21 looks like right now:

-Kenny Florian vs. Takanori Gomi

-Stefan Struve vs. Roy Nelson

-Yushin Okami vs. Lucio Linhares

-Nate Quarry vs. Jorge Rivera

-Cole Miller vs. Andre Winner

-Gleison Tibau vs. Caol Uno

-Ross Pearson vs. Dennis Siver
