Jeremiah Masoli One of Two Ducks Being Investigated in Laptop Theft

↵↵

↵↵Update: KMTR in Eugene is reporting police told the station neither Masoli nor Embry are “suspects at this time.”↵

↵↵Update 2: The Oregonian has details on a potential alibi for the players and the ongoing investigation.↵

↵↵College students are mostly people of few possessions. Some have cars and some have Wiis, some have TVs and some have iPods. But those vary greatly from person to person and income to income. The one thing nearly every college student now has, often thanks to university requirements, is a laptop. I find it hard to believe that Oregon football players Jeremiah Masoli and Garrett Embry would each have needed an extra one.↵

↵↵The Oregonian reports that Masoli and Embry are being investigated by Eugene police for stealing two laptops and a guitar from a fraternity house.↵

↵↵⇥Fraternity member Max Wolfard filed a police report alleging that the players took two MacBook Pro computers - one valued at $2,000, the other at $1,500 - and a $900 guitar from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house at 812 E. 14th Ave. in Eugene early Sunday. ⇥⇥↵⇥↵⇥...⇥⇥↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥Wolfard, a 20-year-old sophomore from Portland, is adamant he has correctly identified the players. ⇥⇥↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥“The minute I stepped on the staircase I said to myself, ‘Wow, Masoli and Embry are in our house right now,” Wolfard told The Oregonian on Sunday afternoon. “Masoli has a very distinctive face, very distinctive facial hair -- not to mention I see him on TV all the time.”⇥⇥↵⇥

↵↵↵As this is an ongoing investigation, and the Oregonian story is basically framed around what Wolfard told a reporter, it should be noted both that all parties are innocent until proven guilty, and Oregon’s athletic department is keeping mum. But if it’s true that he was recognized at a frat house for his “very distinctive facial hair,” this incident may well make Masoli the dumbest alleged laptop burglar-slash-BCS conference starting quarterback in recent memory↵

↵↵Florida-turned-Auburn QB Cameron Newton will just have to catch up. ↵

↵↵Editor’s note: A photo that initially appeared in this post initially identified as Garrett Embry was incorrect due to a mislabeled photo from the Associated Press. We have pulled the correct headshots directly from the Oregon Ducks web site now.↵
