Raiders Reportedly Hire Hue Jackson As New Offensive Coordinator

After earlier interviewing for both the Raiders' head coach and offensive coordinator roles, Hue Jackson has reportedly been hired for just the latter position, according to ESPN's Michael Smith.

Given that this is the Raiders, however, some ambiguity does remain. Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer confirmed that Jackson has only been hired as the offensive coordinator, but emphasized that the team has not officially announced that Tom Cable will stay on as coach next year, though he is expected to be back. If Cable does get the ax, whoever Al Davis hires to replace him would be in the awkward position of already having a coaching staff filled out for him. If that happens, it wouldn’t be altogether shocking if Hue Jackson would get another look as head coach. After all, that is exactly how Jim Zorn got his gig in Washington two years ago.

Jackson has worked the past two years as Baltimore’s quarterbacks coach, and has been instrumental in nurturing Joe Flacco’s development, a fact likely not lost on Al Davis who has desperately tried to justify selecting Jamarcus Russell first overall in the 2007 draft.

Stay tuned. With the Raiders, anything is possible.
