Venus Williams, the six-seed at the Australian Open, was upset by China’s Li Na Wednesday in a quarterfinal match. Na advanced to the semis with her win, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5.
Venus Williams Upset At Australian Open
Venus was serving for the match in the second set, but Li broke her, forcing a tiebreaker that she dominated. The two battled through six service breaks in a row, and eight in the first 10 games of the third set, before Li broke Williams in the 11th game. The match lasted 2 hours and 47 minutes.
Li joins Zheng Jie as the first Chinese players to advance to the semifinals of the same Grand Slam tourney.
