The Only Colors: Their Specialty is Winning
MSU turned the ball over 3 out of every 10 times they had the ball. Early on, I wasn’t terribly concerned about the turnover issues because they were more a function of being too aggressive than being too tentative. But MSU could never get into a consistent offensive rhythm and ended up making some pretty boneheaded turnovers, too. The apparent lack of preparation for the 1-3-1 zone in the first half was particularly bothersome (as were the body checks the Michigan defender in the middle of the zone was allowed to make in going after the ball on several occasions).
I’d love to know if any other team in the country has won a game this season (or in any recent season) with a turnover percentage deficit of 23 percentage points.
Bottom line: Michigan State is now 23-3 in Big Ten play—including 12-1 on the road—since the beginning of the 2009 conference season. A bit lucky? Absolutely. Also pretty darn good.
