Twinkie Town: Jim Thome A Good Signing For Minnesota

The crew over at SB Nation’s Twinkie Town are all in the same boat when it comes to the Jim Thome signing: it’s a good one for the club:

Things are always better when they work on a number of levels. First, you already know that getting Thome makes the bench better. Second, it’s a one-year contract. Third, if something goes completely haywire and Thome short-circuits, it’s no loss. Fourth, Thome still brings some skills to the table which are insanely valuable: power, and the ability to get on base.

[…]

Even at his age, Thome can still mash, and he can still work a walk. Those are good things.

Perhaps the best part about the Thome signing is that if he sees success off the bench, merging him into the starting lineup shouldn’t be very hard at all. All things considered, Thome could be a big help when it comes to the Twins trying to win the A.L. Central in 2010.
