January 3, 2010 – Queens, NY (Sports Network) – Sharaud Curry posted 26 points, five assists and four steals to lead the Providence Friars to a 74-59 victory over the St. John’s Red Storm in a Big East Conference clash.
Providence 74, St. John’s 59: Sharaud Curry Leads Friars To First Big East Win
Jamine Peterson tallied 14 points for Providence (9-5, 1-1 Big East). The Friars also got 12 points from Brian McKenzie and 10 points from Marshon Brooks.
Justin Brownlee posted 14 points in defeat for St. John’s (10-4, 0-2), which got 13 points, 11 rebounds and six assists from DJ Kennedy.
St. John’s actually held a 33-32 lead at intermission after shooting 56.5 percent from the floor in the first half.
Both teams shot 12-of-33 from the field in the second half. Fortunately for the Friars, they outscored the Red Storm 16-1 from the foul line over the final 20 minutes.
Providence committed just 10 turnovers in the tilt while forcing St. John’s into 23 giveaways.
