After 22 seasons, five Cy Young Awards and over 300 wins, Randy Johnson is set to announce his retirement Tuesday night at 7 p.m., on a conference call with reporters (the glamorous lifestyle just never stops when you’re a a professional athlete). Johnson moved up his call to tonight instead of Wednesday, which was his original plan, as not to conflict with the Baseball Hall of Fame announcement.
Randy Johnson, Five-Time Cy Young Award Winner, Set To Retire
Johnson retires with really nothing left to accomplish. During his career that spanned over three decades, he played for seven different teams, won a World Series in 2001 with Arizona (and was named co-MVP, with Curt Schilling), led the league in strikeouts in nine separate years and pitched a perfect game in 2004 and a no-hitter in 1990.
He'll end his career second all-time with 4,875 strikeouts, behind only Nolan Ryan.
