In Week 17, the Jets gave the Bengals a good old-fashioned sonning, beating them 37-0. On Saturday, the teams move from Jersey to Cincinnati for a rematch in the playoffs. So who’s going to win the first game of the postseason?
B-B-B-Bengals And The Jets, As Simulated By Tecmo Super Bowl And Madden 10
↵To find out, I’ve enlisted the help of an updated classic and a contemporary favorite. The folks at Knobbe.org have updated Tecmo Super Bowl with 2009 rosters, so I pitted the Bengals against the Jets and watched the pixels fly. The result: Jets 10, Bengals 7. Here are the stats.
↵
↵The Jets overcame Mark Sanchez’s two picks -- both in the end zone -- and Carson Palmer looked less like a football player and more like one of the Hammer Brothers. Thomas Jones went gangbusters on the Bengals’ defensive line.
↵Now for Madden 10’s simulation. The Bengals eked out a 21-14 win. This game disagrees with Tecmo Super Bowl in several departments -- neither running game produced anything of significance, and Palmer threw for two touchdowns. In the final minute, Sanchez managed to lead the Jets to the red zone, then rocketed the ball into triple coverage for an interception. Sounds about right to me.
↵Will either of these simulations be anywhere near accurate? Wait and see. In the meantime, stay tuned for more Tecmo/Madden simulations.
