Last week after the Washington Capitals had lost three games in a row, it was apparent that SOMETHING needed to change to pull this flailing team away from the brink. The obvious answer was to name Alex Ovechkin, NHL superstar extraordinaire, captain of the Capitals and just watch the victories roll in.

↵After routing the Atlanta Thashers 8-1 tonight, with Ovechkin getting just one point, there is now this astounding fact in the Caps’ three-game winning streak, courtesy of Japers’ Rink:
↵↵In the three games since Alex Ovechkin was named the 14th captain in franchise history, he has just one goal. More amazing is the fact that the team has scored 17 goals in those three games, including 8 tonight, without the explosive offense of #8. Pretty sure he’s not complaining, though.

Ovechkin is so good as the team captain, he doesn’t even need to score for the Caps to be awesome. It must be noted, however, Ovi does lead the NHL in +/-.
