In an NHL season stacked with injuries for dozens of players, another one bit the dust. Andrei Kostitsyn will miss at least six weeks following knee surgery making him unavailable for the Montreal Canadiens and likely Belarus at the winter Olympics in Vancouver. Suspected of being day-to-day originally, AK-46 had ten goals and five helpers in 14 games prior to this procedure.
Knee Surgery Sidelines Andrei Kostitsyn
Jan 9, 2010 - When Andrei Markov suffered a lacerated ankle courtesy of Carey Price in the season opener, it foreshadowed not only Montreal's eventual injury woes but the league's as well. Tomas Plekanec and Michael Cammalleri have each drawn blanks in three matches since their linemate's absence.
Jacques Martin has had to shuffle his lines in search of a replacement for Kostitsyn on the top line. Max Pacioretty got two cracks at the responsibility and Matt D'Agostini attempted his luck Thursday. Neither really proved to be better than the other in Martin's opinion.
Sergei Kostitsyn is apparently the next try-out for the No.1 unit but is listed as day-to-day. Then again, so was Andrei at first before surgery was announced.
