With this summers business still fresh in the memory, Real Madrid and their loyal base of sporting daily newspapers are already going about next seasons signings. And at the top of the agenda is the free-scoring man mountain, Fernando Llorente. The Athletic Bilbao striker ticks all the boxes. He's young, he's Spanish and he scores goals.
Fernando Llorente: Real Madrids Next Galactico?
Even Jose Mourinho likes him and looking at Real Madrids start to the season, he’s exactly what they need. A target man capable of working things around upfront, making a nuisance of himself and scoring goals to boot. Llorente has a contract at Bilbao until 2013, but if Uncle Florentino is willing to shell out €36 million, he’ll have his man thanks to the strikers buy-out clause.
Funnily enough that would be one million euros more than Madrid paid for Karim Benzema last year, exactly the man Florentino will be wanting to offload when looking for cash to fund the signing of Fernando Llorente. It’s no secret the Frenchman isn’t held in the greatest regard by Jose Mourinho and after a shocking year and a half at the Bernabeu, patience is wearing thin. Although quite who would be willing to pay that amount for a large helping of sulky ‘potential’ remains to be seen. Step forward Manchester City.
